The Singaporean government continues to bolster workforce transformation with initiatives like the Mid-Career Training Allowance. Under this program, part-time courses, including the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme and qualifications at institutes of higher learning, will be eligible for financial support. This move aims to increase accessibility to higher education and training for mid-career professionals, especially those aged 40 and above.

As part of the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme, the allowance will help eligible workers cover expenses such as books and transport, with a monthly allowance of S$300 for part-time participants. For full-time courses, the allowance is half the average income of the latest 12 months, capped at S$3,000 per month.

Elitez Group’s CEO, Derrick Teo, notes that while the financial flexibility is a positive step, workers may hesitate to fully engage with these opportunities unless clear career pathways are established. It is essential for these programs to be recognized by employers in hiring and promotion decisions, ensuring that the credentials hold real weight in the job market.
